FSB has welcomed the Government’s 25-year environment plan, describing it as a “positive move in providing a long-term environmental strategy”, but warned that small firms will need help in making adaptations.
The vision includes measures to reduce the amount of plastic used in food manufacturing and to abolish the exemption for small shops from England’s 5p plastic bag scheme.
“Smaller firms want to do the right thing and support the continued push to shift
consumer behaviour away from disposables towards cleaner, more sustainable alternatives,” said Mike Cherry, FSB National Chairman.
“We need a consistent and progressive approach which provides an achievable pathway for small businesses to innovate, adapt their products and make their investment decisions,” he added. Other measures include a new environmental watchdog.
