A roofer from North Lanarkshire is celebrating after being crowned Britain’s Top Tradesperson.

FSB member Darren McGhee was presented with a package including £10,000 worth of tools, a £5,000 tech bundle and £5,000 towards future training by Screwfix CEO John Mewett and football legend Matt Le Tissier at Screwfix’s annual trade show, Screwfix Live.

The judges paid tribute to his passion and commitment but also highlighted his customer care, including his MyRoofCare package. “This is the first product of its kind and means that, for a small monthly fee, homeowners can now have roof protection cover and no nasty surprises,” says Caroline Welsh, Director of Brand and Marketing at Screwfix.

Darren said: “Just making it to the final was a massive achievement, so to win is amazing. The prize will be hugely valuable in helping me to continue to grow MyRoofCare and raise standards in the roofing industry.”

Now in its tenth year, Britain’s Top Tradesperson received more than 1,000 entrants. During the final, Darren and nine other finalists faced a panel of industry-leading judges, including representatives from NICEIC, CIPHE and FMB.
