FSB in Kent is running a range of events to help you in your business, but why should you take time out to network? Is it worth it?
“Networking is an effective business tool for all self-employed and smaller businesses; it provides a platform to meet like-minded individuals and build connections for growth and development, both professionally and individually,” says Amanda Flanders of Butterflies and Dreams Events.
Here are some tips to help you get the best from networking. Firstly, think about what you want to achieve. Raise your company profile; gain new contacts or build your confidence? Secondly, be ready to ‘pitch’! Create a 60 second ‘elevator pitch’ which describes your business clearly and concisely. Finally, when you are there, step out of your comfort zone. It’s only natural to gravitate towards people that you already know. If you find yourself in this situation scan the room for people you have yet to meet, help them to join the conversation or be bold and introduce yourself. Look out for new people. Remember how you first felt when you turned up to somewhere new; a friendly introduction will be much appreciated.
It’s true that people prefer to do business with people they know, like and trust. Networking gives you the opportunity to meet people and potentially greet new customers and collaborators.
