Triple triumph for Merseyside, West Cheshire and Wigan area in North West FSB Celebrating Small Business Awards 2018

Three small businesses from the Merseyside, West Cheshire and Wigan area of the Federation of Small Businesses were victorious at the North West FSB Celebrating Small Business Awards 2018, which took place at the Mercure Blackburn Dunkenhalgh Hotel and Spa, Blackburn on Wednesday, 21 March.

Wallasey-based Access Personal Checking Services Ltd (APCS) bagged the Business and Product Innovation Award, presented by Shaun Morton from headline sponsor Prism – IT at Work. The company, which has been processing employee recruitment disclosures since the introduction of the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) in 2002, has grown significantly and is now the largest DBS umbrella body in the North West.

Winner of the Business Exporter Award, presented by presented by Becky Toal of Crowberry Consulting, was Hydraulics Online in Alsager, Cheshire. Founded in 2004, the company’s innovative use of the internet has enabled it to provide a vast range of bespoke hydraulics products to more than 3,500 customers from 130 countries worldwide. Its growth has been organic, relying on excellent customer service rather than paying for advertising.

Global Air training, in Tattenhall, Cheshire, won the Micro Business of the Year category. Founded in the aviation industry, the company has expanded to deliver human factors training and consultancy services further afield – providing a range of training courses at its purpose-built training facilities and at clients’ locations worldwide. The award was presented by Christa Price of Worldpay.

To triumph against such strong competition is a huge achievement and they should be proud to be leading successful businesses that are so important to driving the UK’s economy forward.”

The winners now have the chance of success in the national finals, to take place in Westminster, London in May.
