Ladies and gents, this is the moment you’ve waited for…
On 20th June small businesses from across South Wiltshire met at Salisbury City Hall to celebrate the 2019 South Wiltshire Business of the Year Awards.
Local FSB Members were involved in kicking off this initiative twenty years ago and I am pleased to say current volunteers Mary Webb and Lisa Clements are still central to this annual event.
This year the awards kicked off with James Morrison and concluded with a dazzling medley of songs from The Greatest Showman, accompanied by fire eating, stilt walking and hoop twirling. Spire FM, who host the awards, know how to entertain a crowd!
This year Mary and Lisa judged the “Best New Start Up” category and with 33 entrants this was no mean feat. After much deliberation they were pleased to present their award to Pioneer Pop Up, who repurpose vintage caravans into kitchens and offices. A very worthy winner combining sustainability and charm in their new business idea.
20 years ago there were only 14 entries in the whole event. This year there were 170 entries over 13 awards, with 70 percent of entrants entering for the first time. It was obvious from the 800 people in the auditorium on 20th June how successful these awards have become and how respected they are in the local community.
It was an honour for the FSB to be involved in something that so obviously celebrates the success of businesses in South Wiltshire and we hope to be involved for many more years to come.
