In keeping with our practice of meeting Area MP’s to discuss local issues we met our volunteer members met with Michael Gove MP for Surrey Heath chaired by Regional Chairman, Brian Woods.
Unusually heavy traffic, even for a Friday, on the M3 and M25 did not prevent even one of our members from attending and we can only describe that a lively discussion took place. Renewably Energy was our first issue on the table.
Question – what positive incentives will be offered to encourage both homeowners and business owners to become ‘Prosumers’ (people who produce and consume their own power)? Answer – the Minister will consult with Claire Perry who covers this issue in his Department and feedback.
Next up, the housing crisis in Surrey Heath and once again the issue of barriers to small house builders was brought to the attention of this Minister. It was agreed that Central Government should be applying more pressure on local Government to deliver on this issue.
Brexit – the Minister asked all at the meeting to be “brutally” honest and tell him if Government information eg .Gov website and HMRC especially in relation to exporting was valuable information. Answer, no as well as far too much from HMRC. The Secretary of State took contact details from two of our members to discuss further.
