The last monthly business networking event which is held at the Orange Tree public house on Norton Road, Baldock featured local property expert Kirsty Harvey, who gave her top tips for managing business property.

Kirsty Harvey who is the founder of Letchworth based KTD Surveying said: “It is crucial that business owners understand the terms of their leases and why certain clauses could have negative consequences for their business.

So often people rely on their accountant or solicitor to deal with the lease, and are not aware that a chartered surveyor is experienced in negotiating rents and basic lease terms.

Surveyors look at practical issues such as the condition of the property and how service charges and repairs should be dealt with, and ensure that your business is protected from significant and unexpected bills. I will be giving tips on what to look out for, and how to avoid costly mistakes, whatever lease negotiations you may be facing.”

The format of the networking meeting allows everyone  at the event to “pitch their wares” in two-minute slots to their fellow attendees. Called #FSBConnect networking, the concept  is part of a successful series of national FSB networking events  in which small business owners have a chance to meet fellow business owners. The event will be hosted by Hertfordshire branch chair, Pam Charman  and is deliberately held at 5.30pm to allow businesses to go straight after work.

The events are open to both FSB members and non-members alike and with Hertfordshire being such a hub for networking it has already generated a lot of interest.

Each event attracts a great range of local businesses who have fed back very positively about the new contacts they have made.

The evening  costs £10 for members and non-members and includes a buffet supper and tea or coffee and as well as the formal networking, there will always be a speaker at the event as well as a business card draw which will give the winner five minutes to say a more about a topic of their choice.

Our next event will be held on Thursday 7th September at 5:30pm to 8pm at The Orange Tree, Norton Road, Baldock, SG7 5AW.  This month the speaker will be Keith Benwell on 'Memory'.

The event will always be the first Thursday of the month. For further information and to book, go to www.fsb.org.uk/bedscambsherts  or contact Caron Kendall on 01525 875866.
