Policy Update

  • 21 Jun 2017

The FSB London Team have been in heavy campaigning mode over the past few months with the immediate engagement with councils following the March Budget (that now seems a very long time ago).

We have lobbied all our London Councils on the issue of Business Rates to provide immediate financial support to the businesses that are suffering most as a result of the Revaluation in April this year.

A significant number of councils have responded very favourably.

We followed that up by producing a series of ‘London Pledges’ for the 289 London prospective parliamentary candidates to coincide with the national manifesto.

The pledges included candidates supporting a series of asks around London business issues including business rates, affordable workspace, housing and backing Crossrail2.

We have conducted a major piece of research with the Mayor of London’s Office to provide recommendations to Government on reviewing and reforming the business rates system, due to launch early summer.

The number of issues that we are lobbying on is steadily increasing and they centre heavily on issues with Commercial landlords.

If you have any pertinent issues that you would like us to look into then please come along to our Business Voice Group sessions.

The next one will take place on 12 July and details are available at fsb.org.uk/regions/greater-london or you can contact the London Staff Team.
