The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) has announced their new South East Regional Chair - David Milham will serve for the next three years.
David has previously acted as Area Leader for Kent and Medway and brings a wealth of experience from his work as a business consultant specialising in financial security. David takes on the role following a successful tenure by outgoing Chair Brian Woods of WS Planning and Architecture.
David will lead a Regional team of volunteers in delivering an ambitious policy and activity plan across Surrey, Sussex and Kent.
This plan includes engaging with grassroots members; supporting national FSB campaigns on a local level such as Making Business Better and offering networking, exhibitions and training events for small businesses and the self-employed.
David says, “I am passionate about providing support and encouragement for all those running a small business. These entrepreneurs wake up every morning with a desire to make their businesses better, whether that is increasing turnover, through growth and innovation or in supporting their local communities.
"Our volunteer roles allow us to talk directly to local stakeholders including MPs, councils and Local Enterprise Partnerships to ensure the small business voice is heard.”
David continued, “I want us to lead on topics such as championing women in business; employing armed forces personnel and supporting young entrepreneurs. I’ll encourage sharing best practice across counties, such as the excellent Kent Skills 30:30 project that brings students face-to-face with businesses.
"I am also focused on raising awareness of mental health - not just for the employees of our members but also the members themselves. Running a small business can be lonely and isolating. We will signpost the many support organisations available and offer support and training.”
