New rules for HGV firms in London

HGV firms operating in London should be aware that in addition to a range of other road user charges currently (or about to be) applied in parts of London, there are new rules for HGV cab visibility that will apply across the whole of Greater London.

The Direct Vision Standard (DVS) was launched by Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan in 2016, but it is now set to become much tougher, DVS star ratings for Euro VI HGVs are now available. Work is currently being carried out on rating older Euro IV and Euro V.

From 2019 an HGV Safety Standard Permit Scheme is being introduced for all HGVs over 12 tonnes that enter the capital.

All manufacturers are aware of the ratings and details for how to contact them, together with more information about DVS and the safety permit scheme is available on the TfL website at https://tfl.gov.uk/info-for/deliveries-in-london/delivering-safely/direct-vision-in-heavy-goods-vehicles.
