Another way that we highlight small business issues is through our media relations work. We issue news releases to local print and online media outlets frequently and write regular columns for newspapers such as the Worcester News and magazines such as Shropshire Business. We also participate in radio and TV interviews, with recent slots on BBC Hereford & Worcester, Radio Shropshire and Sky 117 TV Channel ‘Made in Birmingham’.
The latter came about because Carl Jones, the former editor of the Shropshire Star and editor of Shropshire Business magazine, also hosts a show on the ‘Made in Birmingham’ channel called ‘Birmingham Business’. Carl’s strong ties with us in this region, meant that he approached us to ask for an interview with Mike for his show.
‘Birmingham Business’ has almost one million viewers a month so the opportunity was too good to miss. We made the necessary arrangements quickly and the in-depth interview aired at the beginning of June. It was just one more example of how FSB’s media work is helping to amplify the voice of small businesses.
