Grants4Growth is a programme delivered by South Holland District Council providing capital project grants between £1000 and £25,000. The objective is to help eligible businesses to increase local profitability and create sustainable jobs. Funding can be utilised towards the purchase of capital assets that will stimulate productivity and sales and create innovation and business efficiencies.

Local business ‘Shelton Sportsturf Drainage’ based near Horncastle, have recently received a grant towards a prototype machine. The business, which specialises in the manufacture of specialist drainage equipment for golf courses, football pitches and other playing surfaces, have been working on the development of new machinery that has sparked a lot of interest in the industry.

After purchasing the business in 2013, Richard Clark and Michael Claxton set about designing and building a machine capable of placing aggregate materials precisely into trenches when installing drainage in turf surfaces. But the next stage of the project would require funding to build a prototype machine.

It was then that Richard and Michael decided to contact Grants4Growth in Spalding. After a short telephone conversation with the team a business advisor visited the business to talk them through the application form and work with them to outline their case for investment. Two weeks later, Richard and Michael received the good news that £8,903 had been awarded to allow them to build the prototype machine.
