FSB working with LEP to ensure growth strategy is developed

  • 10 Aug 2017

FSB Devon and FSB Somerset and Wilts are meeting with the HotSW Lep to discuss the availability of Business Population Data. Business population data is currently delivered through the Inter Departmental Business Register (IDBR) and the Business Population estimates (BPE) from BEIS; however, neither of these data sets are publically available down to an LEP level.

This means that LEPs across England do not know their micro-business or self-employed totals – those businesses below the VAT turnover threshold and who do not use PAYE.

We are working with the LEP to ensure this data is available to them, this will enable us all to continue to develop and deliver the growth strategy for Devon and Somerset. The National team at the FSB have alerted us to this as they think it is important that the LEP has this data, properly amalgamated and including all self-employed and micro businesses. This can then be worked into Strategic Economic Plan and the work of the LEP at all levels.

In addition we are asking the HotSW LEP to make this information public, thus enabling us and others, to work better with you in developing and reviewing your Strategic Economic Plan for Devon and Somerset.
