FSB London meets two key influencers in a week

  • 02 Oct 2017

The FSB held two key lobbying events with two high profile London figures in September.  We hosted a business rates report launch to showcase the cost of the business rates revaluation on small firms in the capital.  The event was attended by Deputy Mayor for Business Rajesh Agrawal with 50 attendees.

We also met with Deputy Mayor for Regeneration, Skills and Planning, Jules Pipe.  The issue of commercial space, and how the Mayor of London will cater for small firms in his new London Plan  was discussed.   The meeting was attended by Sue Terpilowski, FSB  London Policy Chair, alongside FSB Members, Ken Wright, Dominic Williams and Gareth Jones.

As Jules pointed out,  “Small businesses are critical to London's economy, providing many thousands of jobs and underpinning a rich and varied ecosystem of economic activity. To make sure that small businesses can continue to thrive we need an approach that works for them - seeking to provide workspace for growing businesses, protecting existing low-cost space, protecting industrial capacity, and investing in the infrastructure that small businesses value.

Jules added how the GLA “have worked hard to reflect the needs of small businesses in the new London Plan, and now we want to hear from you to make sure we've got the right approach.

"We're keen for small businesses to respond to the London Plan consultation, which will begin at the end of November, including via the Federation of Small Businesses.”
