Twenty FSB members from Spelthorne Borough started the New Year as the mean to go on by meeting their local MP’s. We started with Kwasi Kwarteng MP and Minister for the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS).
The meeting took place in the local Conservative offices in Ashford (Surrey) and a buffet lunch was provided facilitating informal conversations with the Minister as well as member networking.
In 2019 Ashford High Street had it’s fair share of retailer disruption with the road being closed in both directions for sewage works for 14 weeks culminating in the area becoming a ghost town overnight. FSB pressure achieved that the road was re-opened three weeks early but we are still leading on a compensation for retailers claim backed by Kwasi.
In his address Kwasi mentioned that he was the last Minister to be appointed by the PM prior to the Snap general Election and how he couldn’t be found to have the conversation as his Government mobile wasn’t working. It was midnight before the conversation took place.
He stressed the necessity for de-carbonisation whether or not you believe in climate change and that the Government will continue to pursue their renewable energy programme.
Kwasi confirmed that consultations with FSB are very important to BEIS. This was an exceptional lunchtime meeting/discussion and we look forward to meeting with Jeremy Hunt MP later this month. Check out the surprise visitor in the photograph!
