Five years ago, Kelly Gilmour-Grassam turned a passion for writing into a business, founding copywriting agency Making You Content. She, and her now eight-strong team, celebrated the milestone on Friday 8th March – International Women’s Day.
Making You Content began as a one-woman band, and soon joined FSB for the protections of being part of a larger organisation. Kelly went on to win the IPSE Young Freelancer of the Year award in 2015, and in 2016 she hired the agency’s first employee.
This week, the Northern Quarter-based business welcome their newest hire, as part of a recruitment drive that’s seen the team almost triple over the past 12 months.
“The last five years have been brilliant, however they’ve had their challenges too,” she said. “The statistics are against us: only one in five start-ups manages to surpass its fifth year, and the percentage of women involved in enterprise activity is almost half that of men,” says Kelly.
“To be able to celebrate our fifth birthday on International Women’s Day is not only fantastic, but fitting to the rise of female-founded UK businesses.”
To mark the business’ quinquennium and its progression, MYC has also launched a new look with a birthday rebrand to honour the milestone’s passing.
“I’m really excited to reveal our new identity– it sums up everything MYC stands for and how we elevate the brands we work with,” says Kelly. “We’ve invested hugely in the growth and improvement of the business and hopefully that will shine through.”
