Employer Mentoring – Help a young person fulfill their potential

YC Hertfordshire, in conjunction with the Careers and Enterprise Company, is seeking employer mentors for its scheme to support young people in school on a one to one basis. These young people are aged between 12 and 15 and are at risk of disengaging or underachieving.

Mentors will support young people and encourage them to raise their aspirations, improve their educational attainment and motivate them about the world of work.

One mentor said “Personally I feel like I have benefitted greatly from mentoring. It has given me the opportunity to carry out work with a young person and given me the ability to try and make a difference in their life. Mentoring has provided me with more experience in my area of work and given me the opportunity to progress in my career.”

Mentors do not need previous experience of mentoring or working with young people, as training is provided. We do ask for the ability to communicate effectively and the desire to support and inspire young people. Volunteers will also be assisted throughout the process by an experienced member of the YC Hertfordshire team.

For further information about becoming a mentor please contact Sarah Bennett or Annelise Molloy on yc.iag@hertfordshire.gov.uk.
