Derbyshire MP gives her backing to #thinkselfemployed

Ruth George, the Member of Parliament for High Peak, has given her backing to the #thinkselfemployed campaign being championed by the Federation of Small Businesses.

The FSB campaign calls for the Government, political parties and policy makers to start thinking more about the self-employed and the challenges they see every day.

It follows a meeting at Ms George’s Buxton constituency office with Michael Watkinson, FSB Development Manager for Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire, and Mark Chimley, FSB Volunteer Area Leader also for Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire.

Ruth George MP said: “I was delighted to give my backing to this great campaign and to meet Michael and Mark and go through in detail what I could do as an MP to help #thinkselfemployed.

“Small businesses are vital to this community and I look forward to working with the FSB in the future to make sure they have all the support required.”

According to the FSB there are 4,900 individuals in High Peak (aged 16-64) who consider themselves self-employed (8.4% of the population.)

FSB Development Manager, Mike Watkinson, added: “We are grateful for Ruth’s support for the #thinkselfemployed campaign – we hope the campaign will lead to some concrete and positive changes for people who strike it out on their own in the workplace.”
