FSB members Alison Norman and Helen Whitaker will be celebrating their pre-school music classes with a loud splash this month.
“I run pre-school Monkey Music classes in the Tonbridge, Tunbridge Wells and Sevenoaks and my colleague Helen runs them in Bromley, Chislehurst and Hayes. We’ve been running Monkey Music classes for over 15 years, and, nationally, Monkey Music is 25 years old this year.
“We wanted to celebrate this by raising £15,000 for Nordoff Robbins Music Therapy Charity,” says Alison. “So we’ve come together with a team of our customers from past and present and our Monkey Music teachers and we’re entering Triathlon events in East Grinstead on Sunday 12 May.
“The majority of us will Try-a-Tri, a mini-triathlon to encourage more women to try a triathlon. For others it's the Sprint Triathlon and one team member is taking on the Aqua Bike.
Nordoff Robbins is the UK’s largest and leading independent trainer of music therapists and provider of music therapy services.
“At Monkey Music we share Nordoff Robbins belief that music changes lives,” says Alison, “You can read more about the training they provide, and see examples of the work they do with people from all backgrounds and with a huge variety of needs on their website.
Nordoff Robbins are absolutely thrilled that we are trying for an ambitious target, but they are also saying that spreading the word and, raising awareness about the importance of music therapy to help change lives, is also key.
“There are so many brilliant videos of the important work music therapists do with people with dementia. My personal favourite is of an elderly woman Dot and her music therapist Simon.
“The fundraising is going well, we’re at nearly 42% of our ambitious total, but there’s still a long way to go! Any support you can give us will inspire the team to swim smoother, peddle harder and put in a sprint finish in May!”
