Board members sought for South East Midlands Apprenticeship programme.

FSB members are invited to join the board on a programme delivering support for SMEs and jobseekers. ACER, the Association of Colleges in the Eastern Region, is project managing the European Social Fund funded “Employee Support in Skills – Apprenticeship Services” programme on behalf of the lead, Northampton College.

The aim of the programme is to increase the number of people, both employed and unemployed, entering apprenticeships at all levels and will be working with Jobcentre Plus to identify suitable unemployed people who would benefit from support into an apprenticeship.

This programme provides initial support for SME employers in the SEMLEP (South East Midlands Local Enterprise Partnership) area through an advice helpline and Training Needs Analysis. It also provides support for individuals (aged over 16 and not in training) through both recognised qualifications and tailored pre-apprenticeship courses in order to increase their chances of success.

This may vary in duration from a half day to four weeks or more. It can comprise an individual qualification or unit or a number of smaller courses brought together in one customised programme.

The SEMLEP Velocity Growth Hub hosts the advice service where employers interested in taking on an apprentice can complete and submit an online form. The employer will then be guided through the process and pointed towards suitable apprenticeships /providers able to deliver the chosen course.

The project Board comprises of representatives from SEMLEP, Jobcentre Plus, provider networks and delivery partners and would very much welcome any local employer interested in joining the Board to contribute from the business perspective.

The board meets once a quarter. If you are interested or have any further queries, please contact
