11 winning West Midlands businesses go forward to the UK FSB Celebrating Small Business Awards 2020 final

Shropshire based Scribble Inc Ltd, a graphic recording business founded by illustrator Hannah Williams, which offers real time drawing translating information into words and pictures – is one of the businesses that has been crowned one of the West Midlands best small businesses. Hannah was named as the West Midlands Young Entrepreneur of the Year – one of 12 area category winners at the FSB Celebrating Small Business Awards for the West Midlands area held on Friday 6 March at Forest of Arden Hotel. 

Other winners on the day included serious games developer Totem Learning, of Coventry, which took the West Midlands FSB Business and Product Innovation Award for its digital learning solutions. Staffordshire based The Shavedoctor Shave Academy which has been delivering the Shavedoctor professional wet shave courses all over the world since 2007 won Self Employed / Sole Trader of the Year award. The Environmental award went to Laundry Efficiency Ltd who are revolutionising traditional wash methods in the commercial laundry industry to reduce excessive waste, pollution and misuse of valuable natural resources.

It was a fantastic event and it’s been exciting to see so many West Midlands businesses enthusiastically take part in our awards. The sheer scale and diversity of those who entered is a testimony to the vitality of the small business community in the region. We would encourage all small businesses in the West Midlands to follow their example and take part next year to make it an even bigger celebration of small businesses”

The FSB Celebrating Small Business Awards celebrate the best small businesses from the length and breadth of the country, offering national recognition for those who have made the biggest impression over the last 12 months. Twelve area awards finals take place between February and April, with the UK final taking place at a VIP attended awards ceremony on 21 May in London. The West Midlands area category winners, with the exception of the community award, will go through to the UK final.

  • International Business of the Year Award for the West Midlands area:

    Winner: International Pipeline Structural Solutions, Wolverhampton

    IPPS is an independent company with three Directors, who have between them 30-40 years’ experience in manufacturing pipeline commodities. They supply Pipes, Fittings and Flanges Packages worldwide to the Oil and Gas industries, Petrochemical and Utilities industries.

     

  • Environmental Award for the West Midlands area

    Winner: Laundry Efficiency, Cannock

    Laundry Efficiency has been making the commercial laundry industry a greener marketplace since 2016. Now with eight dedicated employees they are revolutionising traditional wash methods to reduce excessive waste, pollution and misuse of valuable natural resources.

     

  • Micro Business of the Year for the West Midlands area

    Winner: Ask the Chameleon Ltd, Burton

    Rachel Hayward is founder of Ask the Chameleon (ATC) and specialises in producing funding and commercial procurement applications and business award submissions for ambitious Midlands-based companies and charities. Since 2015, ATC has secured over £4m in funding and contracts and several high profile awards for clients.

     

  • Start-Up Business of the Year for the West Midlands area

    Winner: HDY Agency, Birmingham

    HFY Agency is a full-service content marketing agency based in Digbeth. HDY was founded in June 2018 by accomplished marketing professional Angel Gaskell and long-term Heart FM radio host Ed James, and in that time the agency has undergone impressive growth becoming Birmingham’s fastest-growing content marketing agency.

     

  • High Growth Business of the Year for the West Midlands area

    Winner: Concierge Medical, Warwickshire

    Concierge Medical is a membership-based private GP service providing comprehensive medical care to registered individuals and businesses. It has established a strong secondary care and allied health network and actively manage member’s health through to diagnosis and treatment, focusing on continuity of care and patient advocacy.

     

  • Family Business of the Year for the West Midlands area

    Winner: Whichford Pottery, Warwickshire

    Established in 1976 by Jim and Dominique Keeling, Whichford Pottery has a reputation for quality frostproof terracotta flowerpots, made entirely from hand from their workshop. Their eldest son, Adam leads a team of over 30 craftspeople. Their youngest daughter Theodora, heads up the sales, marketing and logistics team. And their eldest daughter, Maia, and her partner, Christine have converted an old barn onsite into a café.

     

  • Young Entrepreneur of the Year for the West Midlands area

    Winner: Hannah Williams – Scribble Inc Ltd, Shropshire

    Scribble Inc Ltd is a Graphic Recording business founded by Hannah Williams. This is large-scale real time drawing, which translates information into words and pictures. This service captures ideas in a more creative and engaging way for attendees at events.

     

  • Wellbeing Award for the West Midlands area

    Winner: Voodoochilli Design, Hereford

    Voodoochilli is an experienced web design agency that delivers growth to companies within the engineering, industrial and commercial sectors as well as other SMEs and organisations.

     

  • Community Award for the West Midlands area

    Winner: Itihaas, Birmingham

    Birmingham City Centre restaurant, Itihaas is described as fine dining. Itihaas Managing Director Raj Rana is one of the founders of the homeless charity Lets Feed Brum which is a team of dedicated volunteers who provide food and essential supplies to those living on the streets in Birmingham.

     

  • Business and Product Innovation Award for the West Midlands area

    Winner: Totem Learning, Coventry

    Totem Learning Ltd is a leading Edtech company developing digital learning solutions. They are a team of 13 working with global brands creating cutting edge AR and VR solutions. Totems solutions are used globally and by all age groups to gain skills that improve work performance and enhance lives.

     

  • Digital/E-Commerce Business of the Year Award for the West Midlands area

    Winner: OLPRO, Worcestershire
