Prize for business oriented towards Chinese visitors

Chinese visitors to the UK are able to enjoy more personalised tours thanks to an award-winning guides business.

Beiwei55° recently scooped the gold award in the inbound tourism category of the Visit England Awards for Excellence for its work with Chinese tourists visiting the UK.

Beiwei55° provides guided tours to semi and fully independent travellers in the UK. It also helps UK businesses work with Chinese organisations by providing guides, interpreters and translation services, as well as providing services for recruitment of Mandarin speakers.

The prize category was established to recognise businesses that have adapted or developed products to appeal to international visitors and increase business from inbound markets.

The company was founded in October 2014 by university coursemates Eve Baker and Jay Smith, as each was interested in the travel industry. They recognised that, as native British Mandarin speakers, they had a unique offering to Chinese tourists visiting the UK.
Beiwei55°, which has bases in London and Newcastle, now has a team of five full-time staff and around 10 freelance guides in locations around the UK and one in Paris.

The business is hopeful that the award will enhance its mission to give Chinese visitors more authentic experiences in the UK, and help similar companies operating in this market. Beiwei55° collected its prize at a ceremony held in Bath in April.
