Small firms recruiting school leavers this summer will need to get to grips with changes to the GCSE grading system.
The most notable change will be a switch from the use of letters to numbers, with students receiving grades ranging from 9 to 1, with 1 the equivalent of a current grade G.
Grades 9 to 4 will cover the four levels which currently exist between A* and C, with the lower end of the new grade 4 corresponding to the bottom of the former grade C.
Candidates with grades of 7 will have scores that are equivalent to the old grade A. Those with grade 9 are considered exceptional.
