Banks strive to win trust

Unfair contract terms can be devastating to small firms, and FSB research shows the scale of the problem.

Half (52 per cent) of small businesses have been hit by unfair terms with suppliers, costing £4 billion in the past three years.

The main culprits are failing to make auto-rollover clauses clear upfront, tying businesses into lengthy notice periods, charging high early-termination fees and concealing details in small print.

Two in five firms said they felt powerless to act because the supplier was too important or powerful to challenge.
